Get treatment for addiction from those who know addiction.

Ask how long your therapist has practiced treatment of addiction  and if s/he specializes in it. Use only those who do this as a specialty and who know about 12 step treatment.

Once out of denial, stay out of denial.

Most addicts/alcoholics fight a 'civil war,' battling between the awful pain of addiction and the euphoric recall of the beginning 'good times.' Stick with sober and clean people and do what they do.

Best Wishes,

Addiction Recovery Redirection - Recovery is truly a Miracle!!!

We keep getting representatives who talk about addiction but have not been there, have not studied it and don't understand it. The experts have been on the streets and come back from hell. They know addiction inside and out. They have beaten it and are sober and clean for years.

These recovering people still keep it arrested by living and practicing a spiritual way of life; not religious but spiritual, doing the right things and developing character.  They have felt the pain deeply because they were not protected from their "bottom" and thus became motivated to do the work that recovery entails. This result is truly a miracle. You can trust anything these people say about recovery from addiction.

Best Wishes,

Dr. Peter A. Butkins

Recovery is a process, not an event. Lead your loved one to recovery by not subsidizing the addiction process.

Support the recovery process with love. "I'm here for you when you want help." Efforts at helping when he or she is not ready can feed the addiction. Assertively and lovingly let your loved one know that you can't help until they ask for help. If he or she asks, do whatever it takes to support recovery. Get help to find out how to do this.

Addiction is extremely treatable!

Lack of Power is trying. Just got power back after IRMA.

The storm tested my love and tolerance. At 72 years old, I still can have peace within the storm, just not all the time

Recovering people, law, honest treatment professionals and families can arrest the opiate problem.

It will take a synthesis of these people working together with integrity. Greed and power have no place in treatment.

Inpatient treatment for addiction does not get people sober and clean. There is much work ahead.

Recovery takes much spiritual, mental, emotional and physical work. Stability takes a few years in the mainstream of society where triggers can and must be neutralized.

Everyone seems to have an opinion about addiction based on limited experience with a late stage alcoholic.

Everyone seems to have an opinion about addiction based on limited experience with a late stage alcoholic. We know very little about alcohol and drug addiction. However, what is important is the solution. Go to Twelve Step meetings for the answer.

#addiction Addiction is highly treatable. Politics interfere with effective treatment.

Many times, greed and fears overtake the providers. There are billions of dollars in addiction treatment. There is peace and purposefulness in doing it right.

Enablers are in alcoholic/addictive families and in politics. Enabling is For the Benefit of the Enabler.

Whether the enabler is a parent protecting a child or a politician protecting his money and power, the enabler benefits. The parent sleeps better when the child is out of jail so he pays the fine. The politician enables the weak, not just the one who deserves help, and prevents the consequences from occurring. The consequences are how the addict learns. So the addict does not learn.

After 50 years in addictions tx, I am sure that I can't treat heroin with a drug.

Abstinence is the beginning. Total abstinence!

The problem is Bio  Psycho  Social and Spiritual.

The psychological, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual damage has to be repaired. The conscience must be restored. The family has to be reconstructed. Amends, amends and more and are in order.
