Total abstinence gives the addict/alcoholic a chance to recover from the damage.

Do not shield him from the consequences as this is what motivates him to recover. The pain and loss are the answer and can lead to recovery.

I have seen families, once destroyed by addiction, become reunited with love and forgiveness once the change becomes long lasting.

They are perhaps better off than if the harm had never been done. The rebirth gives meaning to the rejections of the past. The awful past becomes their greatest asset.

Do not give up hope nor be afraid to come back and make amends for harm done. You have nothing to lose but pride. Losing pride is freeing.

Peace and Love,

Doc Pete

Getting sober and clean because of a desire to get the job back or keep the wife is temporary.

Lasting recovery begins with surrender due to a severe beating.

Addiction is chronic. Treatment is a daily program taught by survivors.

I work with many addicts and alcoholics who cut back or quit in their earlier years and then have a serious problem when they get out of control two, three, five or ten years later. They are not aware of the choinicity of addiction. It requires daily treatment taught by twelve step members who teach vigilance, consistency and model the joy of doing this.

Recovery from addiction means surrender, not self improvement.

Recovery from addiction means surrender, not self improvement. Right living means making up for harm done to others and being helpful to them.

Methadone has been a nightmare. Drug free means drug free.

Drug/alcohol treatment is simple. The family has the control if they learn to use it properly. Get a therapist who knows addictions, has been there and can help you become the therapist.

Addiction is Highly Treatable.

Addiction is highly treatable if treatment keeps it simple and do not compiicate the process with drugs and isolation from consequences. Family is the key to good recovery. Get them involved. They are the leverage.

Addiction Therapists should be made of stern stuff!!!

We must do no harm. We can't be part of a system that over medicates, kicks addicts from treatment because of insurance stopping and before they are ready, only to go back to their ghetto and die. We must take a stand. Kids are dying out there.

DO NO HARM!!!

Effective Substance Treatment.

Treatment should skillfully deflate egos and be done by those who have 'been there.'

When you own your own sickness, you can impact others addicts who will then trust the direction.

Let's make America sober again!

The first step is to put a drug czar in office who has a good education on addiction.  Next, we need to get a think tank going to involve government, recovering people, healthcare professionals and lay men to synthesize a theory and treatment protocol.

JOHNNY MANZIEL:'I'M DOING REALLY WELL'... Sober and Training Hard

THINGS ARE LOOKIN' UPTMZSports.com

Johnny Manziel says he's focused on football again -- telling TMZ Sports he's training 5 to 6 days a week and sources say he's "dead serious" about a comeback.

The ex-NFL quarterback was leaving Mastro's Steakhouse in Bev Hills Tuesday night ... and told us how well he's been doing. He also appears sober. We're told it's part of a serious effort to clean himself up.

We know what you're thinking ... we thought it too ... but Johnny is telling people he means business this time around.

Sources connected to the QB tell us he's been working hard in the gym and trying to get himself ready to make another run in the NFL.

Manziel also told TMZ Sports he spoke with Clemson star QB Deshaun Watson after the National Championship game and told us he'll be in his corner as DW embarks on the NFL.

Recovery has to be the Center of Life.

Look at your gift as your priority.  The concept is new to you but is valid.  When recovering people put recovery first, the first thing they get is recovery. From this comes a life.

Family Treatment for Addiction. Substance Abuse.

Family Recovery              Butkins, 2016

I have marital couples enter treatment with the plan that they will work in therapy if the other person changes.  This does not work.  The opposite works.  When the family works toward reconstruction, the family has a chance to heal. This is especially true in a family where there s addiction. If the family waits until the addict is better and continues to harbor the old anger and hurts, the addict, identified patient, is stuck in a dysfunctional family. The spouse or parent... will resist his efforts to get sober and clean.  They will become angry when he goes to his meetings because he is not at home. In other words, they will not be cooperating with his treatment.

When the family enters treatment and participates in family night and family meetings and attends individual or group treatment, Al-anon, for themselves, we can be successful.

Attending treatment means that you are healthy enough to see that you have to also grow.

I ask you, as family members, to let me guide you.

Thank you, Doc Pete

Addiction and "Anticipated Bottom." Substance Abuse/Alcoholism.

The wiser thing to do is to get sober and clean when you have the opportunity.  When you can see that you will definitely lose the job, custody, the marriage... you have a chance to enter treatment.

Or

You can wait until this happens.
