Recovery is a process, not an event. Lead your loved one to recovery by not subsidizing the addiction process.

Support the recovery process with love. "I'm here for you when you want help." Efforts at helping when he or she is not ready can feed the addiction. Assertively and lovingly let your loved one know that you can't help until they ask for help. If he or she asks, do whatever it takes to support recovery. Get help to find out how to do this.

Addiction is extremely treatable!

When the pain of addiction outweighs the pleasure of 'using', recovery is possible.

Recovery takes works and readiness. The good news is that recovery far surpasses the turmoil of 'using.'

Buckle up for a great ride. Recovery gets gooder and gooder.

In recovery from addiction, we eventually find a 'way of life' that far surpasses addiction!

We find peace and a Purpose instead of bondage. We find that we now belong; we have friends who know us. We appreciate our life and the people in it. Work for this and you will prosper!

Have a safe and happy journey,

I have seen families, once destroyed by addiction, become reunited with love and forgiveness once the change becomes long lasting.

They are perhaps better off than if the harm had never been done. The rebirth gives meaning to the rejections of the past. The awful past becomes their greatest asset.

Do not give up hope nor be afraid to come back and make amends for harm done. You have nothing to lose but pride. Losing pride is freeing.

Peace and Love,

Doc Pete

Lasting recovery begins with surrender due to severe pain and loss.

When enablers stop 'helping,' the problems can be perceived and felt. Then the addict/alcoholic has a chance to become desperate and seek help. When given shelter, food or a hospital bed for using drugs and/or alcohol, the problem gets worse. The addict/alcoholic is more convinced of his innocence and the desire to use becomes greater.

Addiction Therapists should be made of stern stuff!!!

We must do no harm. We can't be part of a system that over medicates, kicks addicts from treatment because of insurance stopping and before they are ready, only to go back to their ghetto and die. We must take a stand. Kids are dying out there.

DO NO HARM!!!

Effective Treatment for DrugAlcohol Addiction.

Good treatment is best administered by thoes who have 'been there' and know the traps Even more, these people know how to solve the problems that arise the first year or two without medication or other forms of blocking feelings and reality.

Addicts need to cope with feelings and not regress to anesthetizing them. Anger, fear, remorse and old hurts surface and must be resolved. Those who are sober and clean for years have done this and teach it.

We need to address this. The addictions field is being monopolized by corporations with little knowledge of effective treatment. AND, it is killing us!!!

If you have reached the 'end' and want to get sober and clean and are serious about it...

If you have reached the 'end' and want to get sober and clean and are serious about it, we can help you.  We offer help in Orlando, Florida, online or via telephone.  I have been working in the recovery field for over 45 years and only work with those who are ready to follow my lead.  I have come to realize that there is a way to get sober and clean that works every time if you practice this way thoroughly.  I will show you this path and also help you overcome any obstacles that you meet on this road.  You have to commit to this way before you call me.  This will be your commitment to do the work I assign.  This will also insure that we are starting from a point of departure that is powerful.  If you can agree to the latter commitment you have made a great start.  You will not just be deciding to recover, you will be well on the path to recovery.  The biggest obstacle to commitment is our sense of self-control, a need to keep trying to control our using when we have failed over and over.  When you overcome this need, you have conquered the need to do the impossible: recover alone.  You will join a program with other like-minded people who have given themselves a chance to succeed.  When you commit to us, we commit to you!

Recovery 101               P. A. Butkins 09--07-16 Just because you know how to stay sober doesn't mean that you will!

Knowing the step, stages and signs of recovery and the symptoms, signals and idiosyncrasies of relapse does not mean that you will stay sober and clean.

Knowing how to sponsor, where the best meetings are, who the best sponsor is, memorizing the step, knowing the traditions, legacies and warranties does not mean you are in recovery.  Attending AA or NA meetings does not mean you are in recovery, an active member.

You can go to meetings often and get worse.

You have to perform the tasks that sober and clean and happy people perform in order to become sober, happy and clean.

Self-knowledge is a way to keep controlling your disease and your world.  God is in charge; He is in control. Stop intellectualizing your disease and act.

Redo the steps, sponsor and do service work at your meeting or club.

Do any service work but do it!

until

you can sponsor. (Put your name on the sponsorship list)

Self-knowledge availed us____________!!!

Stay Sober and Prosper,

Doc Pete, the imperfect therapist

Adolescent recovery from substance abuse.

More teens are using harder drugs and having difficulty getting into recovery due to the vast distribution and easy access to almost any drug. The solution is to develop a plan with professional therapists who have expertise in addictions and have been there themselves. Be cautious about your choice of provider.  Watch for quick suggestions of prescriptions without a thorough evaluation and then assessment, hopefully to include testing.

Addiction is life or death and, therefore, it is important to obtain treatment from those who have been successful in helping addicts and alcoholics abstain from all mood-altering chemicals and learn to be productive members of society. Ask for references from successful clients.

Best of luck,

Dr. Peter A. Butkins
