We don't have to get sober and clean - We get to do it.

Addiction Recovery Redirection - Recovery is truly a Miracle!!!

We keep getting representatives who talk about addiction but have not been there, have not studied it and don't understand it. The experts have been on the streets and come back from hell. They know addiction inside and out. They have beaten it and are sober and clean for years.

These recovering people still keep it arrested by living and practicing a spiritual way of life; not religious but spiritual, doing the right things and developing character.  They have felt the pain deeply because they were not protected from their "bottom" and thus became motivated to do the work that recovery entails. This result is truly a miracle. You can trust anything these people say about recovery from addiction.

Best Wishes,

There is no "Magic Pill' that gets you sober and clean. It takes commitment/work.

We must be committed to recovery, not merely involved. This is like having ham and eggs for breakfast. The chicken is involved but the pig is committed. (Anonymous)

Recovery for addicts/alcoholics entails not acting, feeling, behaving or thinking like an addict/alcoholic. This new way of life takes years to master but one day to begin. It is best achieved by being with and learning from those who have 'been down' and have 'come back.'

Recovery from the pain and loss of addiction is much easier than drinking and using.

Once begun, recovery is so much better that it becomes a reward in itself. Recovery for addicts/alcoholics entails not acting, feeling, behaving or thinking like an addict/alcoholic. This new way of life takes years to master but one day to begin. It is best achieved by being with and learning from those who have 'been down' and have 'come back.'

Recovery from addiction is a gift.

All it takes to get the gift is honesty and willingness to ask for help. In other words, humility. It is the best gift I have been given.

Hope springs eternal - Alexander Pope, 1732.

'If I can get sober and clean, anyone can.' I have heard hundreds of addicts/alcoholics say this. No matter the drug, cocaine, opiates, alcohol, cannabis, crystal meth, crack, benzos... there is a way out that I have found.

There is HOPE for the suffering addict/alcoholic. Hope leads to faith and faith leads to recovery.

We merely must do what successful recovering people have done. There are millions of them available to help you. Just ask! You will find hope and a home.

Have a safe and happy journey,

Treatment for addiction is different than traditional treatment for 'people problems.'

Addicts/alcoholics are usually preoccupied with their fears and complaints. We mistakenly get diagnosed with anxiety disorder because of this. Over the past 31 years,I have seen hundreds of addicts/alcoholics stop shaking after participating in twelve-step meetings for just one or two months.

We need to get out of ourselves and not focus more on self. Our chief problem is worry over self. It's wonderful to know that we don't have to do this anymore.

'Our very survival depends upon constant thought of others' (AA book, 1928).

Addicts/alcoholics need to think of others more and self less. Balance is the KEY to the door of recovery!

Have a safe and happy journey,

Recovery from addiction takes a while but it works and gets really good.

The first year is up and down and, in my opinion, it's the best year. 'It was the worst of times and it was the best of times.' We learn to cope, hope and enjoy life.

AND it was worth all the time and effort.

Total abstinence gives the addict/alcoholic a chance to recover from the damage.

Do not shield him from the consequences as this is what motivates him to recover. The pain and loss are the answer and can lead to recovery.

Effective recovery from addiction involves abstinence from all mood-altering chemicals plus character building.

Effective recovery from addiction involves abstinence from all mood-altering chemicals plus character building. Total abstinence gives the addict/alcoholic a chance to recover from the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical damge he has done by giving up the devious ways and then paying back for the harm he or she has done. This usually takes many months and should be done in the mainstream of life.

Addicts/alcoholics must want to get sober and clean because of their severe pain and loss. Then there is much work to do. Ideally, this is done with and by those who have 'been there' in the Twelve Step programs. It is beneficial to be mentored by a good therapist as the addict/alcoholic goes through the first year or two. A personal trusting relationship with a good therapist who has been there and a good outpatient group can save the person from the old self.

There is nothing better than a reunited family. Bonds become a blessing for all.

I have seen families, once destroyed by addiction, become reunited with love and forgiveness once the change becomes trusted. They are perhaps better off than if the harm had never been done. The rebirth gives meaning to the rejections of the past. The awful past becomes their greatest asset.

Do not give up hope nor be afraid to come back and make amends for harm done. You have nothing to lose but pride. Losing pride is freeing.

Peace and Love,

Doc Pete

Media specialists - Please getting an accurate education of addiction and quality recovery? 12 Step works!!!

When the media gets a clear picture of recovery successes, they will see that long term recovery stems from hard work in making up for harms done to others and much prayer. The spiritual conversion, living an honest and giving life works! Then we can spread the word about good, honest treatment given with integrity, honesty and affordability.

Effective recovery from addiction begins with motivation based on consequences, pain and loss.

Getting sober and clean because of a desire to get the job back or keep the wife is temporary. Lasting recovery begins with surrender due to a severe beating.

In recovery, we learn to laugh again.

Addiction recovery means that we accept ourselves as broken, work on mending by making up for the harm done to others and help other addicts/alcoholics to live again. We learn to see our addiction as a means to peace and usefulness - fulfillment.
