Trying to get sober and clean on your own is a fight with a pro.

We can attain a sober and clean lifestyle through support from a Higher Power and those who have been sober and clean. Our own efforts give us despair and depression. Twelve Step Programs breed JOY.

Pay special attention to stress when recovering from addiction.

Find the 'sweet spot' which is attained after you surrender completely to your idea of a Creator who has your back and will never let you down. Then there is no stress. Fear has melted into faith.

We must self-diagnose our drinking and drug use.No one can tell us!

Ask: "Are you drinking or using drugs while in treatment?" "Are you planning to drink after you complete Treatment?"

If yes, see if you can manage it. Choose a plan to control your use, e.g., "I'll drink only two 12 oz. beers when I drink. See if you can do this. See if you can stop at two.

Try it for a month. If you fail, try treatment.

To Thine Own Self Be True!

Go all in!!! Do what successful recovering people did. It worked.

We must give up our plan for our recovery. We do not know how to get sober and clean on our own. Millions have tried. Do what the millions of successful people in recovery did.

Recovery from addiction/alcoholism is about getting 'right' with ourselves. No more guilt or behaviors that create guilt.

Self esteem comes back as we begin to live in a way in which God, self and family approves.

Addiction takes a second stage and now we can enjoy this gift of life.

Drug Cravings leave us when we ask for release and are willing to make amends.

This is an amazing discovery. It is true. Ask me how I know.

The harm done when drug/alcohol affected has to be repaired.

Recovery entails making up for our mistakes when drinking. Then we are free to go and do whatever we choose. We are no longer held in captive by our guilt, sadness, grief and anger generated when actively addicted. We become free men and women.

Best Wishes,

I was misinformed about addiction. Doc Pete

Getting sober and clean involved unlearning many things that I had learned growing up. For instance, I had to forget the ads that said that alcohol is cool and that glamorizing drugs makes for a great movie and that movie entertainers are cute when they get intoxicated, get in fights and go to jail and that the girls in the beer commercials love the guys who are drinking...

Take time to learn accurate information about social drinking, abusive drinking and addictive drinking.

Best Wishes,

There are problems other than alcohol and drugs. Abstinence is but the beginning.

In recovery, we clean up the harm we have done and grow to be the person we can be.

Strike while the iron is hot. Get sober/clean while you are motivated.

This adage is especially valid with drug/alcohol treatment. Don't wait for something else to occur before you decide to get sober and clean. Take action NOW!

Drinking/drug consequences are often disguised. Did you mess up when high?

Problems with drinking are minimized. Be healthy enough to see the problems and get help from those who are sober and clean.

Be humble enough to get help. You deserve your joy and happiness like anyone else. Bring your dreams to recovery meetings!

Best Wishes,
