Recovery gives us choices.

Choose between love or fear. One breeds happiness, the other depression.

Best Wishes,

We don't forget where we buried the hatchet.

Anger/fear is a major issue in early, middle and late recovery. At times, we can be shocked that we are still angry and petty.

When in recovery from addiction, we give  back; then we get back that which we lost.

Recovery from addiction entails asking God for release from the bondage of addiction and then making up for harms done to others.

Keep recovery from addiction simple.

Try not to use your old thinking to worry and predict the worse. All things work out if you work for them. Use a coach who has been there..

Families with addiction - Helpful Guide.

The family that has been torn apart by addiction has much to repair. First, there is forgiveness for the harm done and a commitment to let go of anger, fears, despair, hopelessness, powerlessness and grief. This takes a long time. There is no magic cure. Let go via therapy efforts and direction or there is danger of displacing the anger on others. Let the therapist have a say in the family's healing or nothing will happen.

Best Wishes,                                                           Dr. Peter A. Butkins

Wanting MORE is the addict's curse. Getting more can be worse.

Being happy with what we have is the goal. We can find peace within self by enjoying one day after another giving what we have.

Best Wishes,

Addiction treatment should be affordable.

At My Freedom Quest, I give addicts and alcoholics a chance to get siber and clean no matter how much money they have. It is 'doable' if the person wants help.

Addiction comes with depression and anxiety because the body and mind are warped due to ongoing ingestion of mood-altering drugs.

This subsides for most when clean and sober and working on inner peace in recovery.

Abstinence is not sobriety.

Recovery means much work on thoughts, feelings and subsequent actions. Behaviors must change from self-centered to altruistic. This takes time and work.

Families of addiction have been severely damaged.

Years of repair have to be completed. All members need to heal from the fears, angers, shame and sadness that the disease of addiction breeds. There is no magic cure.

In an addictive family, watch who is in charge.

Do not let the fear of relapse back to drugs or alcohol prevent you from setting boundaries.

Do the right thing! Don't let an addict 'run the show/'

Family unity means that the parents are in charge.

When healthy (non alcohol/drug users) parents are united, the family can survive anything, even addiction. If this is not the case, one healthy family member can move mountains.

Helping others is admirable. Helping an addict should be done with caution.

The best defense against the disease of addiction is a united family, especially the parents.

The alcoholic/addict family has to relearn the meaning of help.

Helping those who can help themselves is co-dependent. Otherwise, helping is nice.

When we want someone to get help more than they want it, we are tied to an impossible task that will bring US down also. Self care is vital!!!

Get treatment for addiction from those who know addiction.

Ask how long your therapist has practiced treatment of addiction  and if s/he specializes in it. Use only those who do this as a specialty and who know about 12 step treatment.
